Pipe Ramming Ireland
What is Pipe Ramming?
Pipe ramming is a way of installing steel ducting and pipes into the ground without the need for a trench. It is primarily used for installing pipes under roads, railway lines, rivers and canals.
Unlike our Auger Boring and Directional Drilling machines Pipe Ramming cannot be steered around big rocks and other in ground obstacles but it is a very effective method for installing pipes without the need for any supporting construction except for a pit used to temporarily house the Pneumatic Hammer to drive the pipe.
Pipe Ramming, compared to conventional methods, has a much lower setup time and associated costs and is most suited to free flowing soils under roads and rail lines where soil disturbance is prohibited.
Ground disturbance is minimised because the waste stays in the pipe until everything is in its final place. This can then be removed by way of pressure. This process allows for a very stable installation.

Why Use Pipe Ramming?
How it works
Pipe Ramming is a great method for installing straight runs of pipes without impacting the local environment.
We dig a pit at one end of the site to install rails to setup our Pipe Ramming machine.
There is a hardened steel cutting head welded onto the ‘cutting’ end of the pipe and the pneumatic hammer pounds an attachment at the other end of the pipe, driving it into the ground.
Once the first length of pipe is installed we remove the hammer and weld a second pipe into place and continue the process until the pipe is installed. The fill is then removed from the pipe and you are ready to install services.
